Froth Treatment Plant

Project Description

The Horizon project is an oil sand mining and bitumen processing facility located 75 km north of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The oil sands are open pit mined, crushed and slurry transported into a large froth separation system designed to separate the bitumen from the sand and clay. Once separated the bitumen is further processed into synthetic crude and the sand/clay is cleaned and returned to reclamation areas. The Horizon Project was sanctioned in 2005 and successfully and sustainably produced its first barrels of high quality, synthetic crude oil in early 2009.
