Project :
Voisey's Bay Mine Mill Concentrator Projector
Client: SNC Lavalin
Owner: Voisey’s Bay Nickel Company, a subsidiary of CVRD Inco Limited
The Voisey's Bay Project is one of the world's largest nickel mines. Construction of the 6000-tonne-per day integrated mine and concentrator at the Voisey's Bay site in Labrador was completed in November 2005. The estimated capital cost of these facilities was CAD $950 million. These facilities support the mining and processing of ore from the Voisey's Bay deposits and produce two types of concentrate; a copper concentrate, and a nickel-cobalt-copper concentrate.
In collaboration with its aboriginal partnership Iskueteu, GJ Cahill, successfully completed several major mechanical, electrical and instrumentation projects at the Voisey's Bay Nickel Mine on the coast of Labrador. The scope of work included: the electrical and instrumentation work for the mill concentrator building, the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation work for the port facilities and other site areas, and the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation work for the mine maintenance building. Further work included the installation of heat tracing on the mine slurry line and replacement of several kilometers of rubber lined pipe and associated pumps.
