Current Opportunities

Quantity Surveyor

Cahill's Quantity Surveyor (QS) will monitor and control construction costs, and the manage sub contracts before, during and after the construction period. The QS will study drawings and specifications developed by the client's Project Management Team of architects or consultant engineers and calculate the types and quantities of materials, subcontractors, and the costs of time and labour required for projects. This role will be responsible for tender assessment and risk analysis, and the negotiation of sub-contract terms and conditions, including verification and agreement of content. The Quantity Surveyor will also be responsible for many aspects of project accounting forecasting, as well as other duties relevant to this role. 

The ideal candidate has a Degree in Technology or a relevant University Degree and is capable of handling project Quantity Surveying functions, contractual matters, and correspondence. Primavera knowledge is a definite asset, as well as experience in billing/invoicing. The ideal candidate must have a sound knowledge of building construction with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role. Excellent communication skills and a logical, methodical approach to work are also key assets.

 

Area Manager - Labrador

Cahill has an immediate need for an Area Manager for our ongoing projects in Labrador City.

The Area Manager, as part of the Cahill management team, will manage a group of Project Managers and lead the company's Labrador projects to successful completion, while playing an active role with clients to foster confidence and trust in the capabilities of Cahill in the Labrador region.

The Area Manager will attend contract and project related meetings, deal directly with client cost controllers, contract administrators, HSE representatives and QA representatives. The Area Manager will ensure documentation is kept up‐to‐date and monitor and intervene to ensure equipment on the critical path is delivered on time, motivate and influence others to foster positive morale and increased productivity while developing strong working relationships with employees, clients and subcontractors.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience, and have a minimum of 15 years experience in the construction industry, with at least 5 of those years being in a management role. Post-graduate management training would be a definite asset.  A solid understanding of the Canadian Codes and Standards and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.

 

Estimators (Electrical, Mechanical & HVAC)

Cahill has an immediate requirement for Estimators to provide estimating support for its operations in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Cahill's Estimators develop cost estimates and assist in the procurement of equipment for projects, interact with suppliers and manufacturers, generate change order pricing, participate in project meetings and the bid process. The successful candidate will liaise with consultants, clients and tradespeople as required, detail miscellaneous AutoCAD drawings for as-builts and fabrication and create RFI's. The successful candidate will perform field checks/verifications, troubleshoot miscellaneous issues and perform other duties as required.

The successful candidate will have experience with drawings/blueprint reading, a keen attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills and a minimum five years experience in the construction industry or equivalent training and experience. The successful candidate will have experience with both commercial and industrial environments, knowledge of estimating software and AutoCAD is an asset, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.

 

Senior Corporate Planner

The Senior Corporate Planner will lead Cahill's planning group with scope definitions and develop project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS). The successful candidate will develop detailed project schedules and plans using Primavera Project Planner (P6) software and Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis; coordinate schedules with engineering, procurement and field supervisors; and attend project group meetings. The Senior Corporate Planner will perform Earned Value Management calculations; prepare S-Curves for measuring project performance and progress; lead field manpower estimates; assign resources to tasks; and prepare manpower loading reports.

The ideal candidate has an engineering degree or a combination of equivalent education and experience. Ten or more years planning experience in the construction industry is preferred. Planning experience in a multi-discipline environment and proficiency with P6 software are definite assets.



 

 

Planners

Cahill's Planner will be involved in all phases of the bidding process from the project proposal stage to project execution.  He/She will be proficient in and responsible for planning, scheduling and monitoring weekly progression of projects and will collaborate with the estimating team on preparing bids, provide input on cash flow, develop detailed schedules and work breakdown structures to meet requirements and prepare weekly progress reports.  He/She will prepare project development, execution and control procedures.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor of Engineering or CET with a mechanical or civil background and have a minimum of five years experience in a project planning role.  A proficiency in using Primavera P6 is required.

 

Superintendants

Cahill has an immediate requirement for Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC and Structural Superintendents for our ongoing projects in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Superintendents will manage, plan and monitor their discipline specific aspects of a major industrial construction project from start to finish as a key member of the project team. They will supervise tradespeople and ensure QA/QC inspection and testing requirements are adhered to. They will be required to take off quantities of materials and equipment for procurement and oversee the preparation and submittal of shop drawings, estimate change orders and interact with company management, and client representatives. The Superintendents will: provide field support to the construction job site teams; liaise with consultants and clients as required; organize the daily planning and scheduling of activities; review and understand scope of work, project specifications, design instructions and supplier information.

The successful candidates will have a Journeyperson certification and a minimum of ten years construction experience with five of those years in a supervisory role.  They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to successfully interface with clients and project team members.

Project Engineers/Technologists

Cahill has an immediate requirement for Project Engineers/Technologists for our ongoing projects in Newfoundland.  The Project Engineers/Technologists will be responsible for any or all of the following depending on the project assignment: 

  • Provide technical support to the project team
  • Liaise with consultants, clients and tradespeople as required
  • Analyze contract drawings in relation to construction method and sequence
  • Maintain construction documents
  • Create and detail drawings for installation purposes
  • Create Requests for Information (RFI)
  • Perform take-offs and estimates for change orders
  • Perform field checks and verifications
  • Coordinate and oversee on site subcontractor activities
  • Update and confirm the project schedule
  • Assist with procurement and material documentation
  • Complete as-built drawings
  • Perform quality control field verifications
  • Attend regular site meetings
  • Assemble final project turnover documentation

The successful candidates will have a Bachelor of Engineering Degree or an Engineering Technology Diploma with a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a commercial/industrial construction environment.

 

Administrative Assistant / Receptionist (Labrador)

Cahill has an immediate requirement for an Administrative Assistant / Receptionist for our ongoing projects in Labrador City. 

The Administrative Assistant / Receptionist will answer and address incoming calls and greet  visitors to the company; scan and file documents as required, distribute all incoming electronic faxes and mail and subsequently file appropriately. The Administrative Assistant / Receptionist will handle all incoming and outgoing couriers, be responsible for additional administrative support when required including but not limited to assisting the Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable departments. 

The successful candidate will have successfully completed an Office Administration program with one to three years of related experience, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office.  This position is 40 hours per week and is contract based.

 

Procurement Administrative Assistant

GJ Cahill has an immediate requirement for a Procurement Administrative Assistant in our corporate office in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Responsibilities:

The Procurement Administrative Assistant will provide support to our Procurement team, assist in purchasing tasks, and maintain all procurement filing and data entry. The successful candidate will create purchase orders, assist in the collection of purchase orders and purchase requisitions and send orders to suppliers. The successful candidate will track the status of submitted orders, address issues throughout the procurement process as they arise and complete various office duties as required.

Experience:

The successful candidate will have a certificate in Office Administration along with 3 or more years of experience or equivalent training and experience. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, meticulous attention to detail and the ability to multi-task. The successful candidate will have intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, highly developed organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Experience in Jonas and working with an Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management company is not required but will be considered an asset.

 

Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager (Labrador)

Cahill has an immediate requirement for a HSE Manager for our ongoing projects in Labrador City. 

The HSE Manager will act as the Labrador point of contact for safety related issues, promote a positive safety culture among employees and ensure the continuous improvement of project specific safety programs. The HSE Manager will supervise HSE Advisors and provide leadership and mentoring to HSE Advisors, Superintendents and Foremen on safety matters in the field. The HSE Manager will provide employee HSE orientation and training and provide guidance to project staff, attend site tool box talks and weekly safety meetings as required and conduct follow-up on incident and accident reports, corrective actions and site inspection findings. The HSE Manager will liaise with Government OH&S representatives and ensure the OHS Act and regulations are understood, followed and current for all sites.  The HSE Manager will perform HSE audits, inspections and investigations and ensure safety documentation is accurate and complete. 

The successful candidate will have a diploma or degree in Health and Safety Management from a recognized post-secondary institution or a combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years experience in an industrial construction environment with at least 5 of those years in a supervisory role. Experience in the construction industry on a brown field, industrial project is a definite asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required. A CSO or CRSP designation is preferred. 

The work schedule is a four (4) week on, one (1) week off rotation. This position offers a competitive compensation package as well as accommodation and travel.

 

HVAC Field Engineer/Technologist

GJ Cahill has an immediate requirement for an HVAC Field Engineer/Technologist for our ongoing work in Long Harbour, Newfoundland.

Cahill's HVAC Field Engineer/Technologist will:

  • provide technical assistance to the project team
  • interact with the procurement department, suppliers and manufacturers
  • generate change order pricing
  • participate in project meetings
  • liaise with consultants, clients and tradespeople as required
  • prepare/review detailed miscellaneous AutoCAD drawings
